This Privacy Policy for International Users explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you use SocraClass outside the Republic of Korea or through the international version of the Service.

Who this Policy applies to

This English Privacy Policy is intended for international users, including users in the United States. Users in the Republic of Korea should use the Korean Privacy Policy. Your use of the Service is also subject to the applicable Terms of Service.

1. Scope and Role of this Policy

  1. This Policy applies to personal information processed in connection with SocraClass websites, teacher and student accounts, classroom activities, customer support, and related educational services.
  2. Depending on the context, we may process information directly as a service operator for teacher accounts or as a service provider acting on behalf of a school, educational institution, or teacher for student-related records.
  3. If we process student records on behalf of a school or institution, the school or institution may remain responsible for certain decisions about those records under applicable law and contract.

2. Categories of Personal Information We Collect

  1. Teacher and administrator account data. This may include name, email address, password, school or institution name, class assignment details, support communications, and optional profile or verification information provided by the user.
  2. Student data. This may include student name or identifier, class and group assignment, participation records, submissions, votes, comments, learning activity results, and other classroom data entered by teachers, schools, or students through the Service.
  3. Transaction and subscription data. If paid services are used, this may include subscription status, billing records, payment confirmations, refund records, and related account records. We do not store full payment card numbers unless expressly stated otherwise by a payment provider flow.
  4. Device, log, and usage data. This may include IP address, access time, browser or device type, operating environment, language preference, error logs, login records, and fraud-prevention or security records.
  5. Communications data. If you contact us, request support, or respond to notices, we may collect the contents of those communications and related contact details.

3. Sources of Personal Information

  1. We collect information directly from teachers, administrators, and other users when they create accounts, configure classes, upload content, purchase services, or contact support.
  2. We collect student-related information from teachers, schools, institutions, and student use of classroom features.
  3. We collect certain technical and usage information automatically when users access or use the Service.
  4. Where applicable, we may receive limited information from service providers that help us operate authentication, hosting, storage, communications, or subscription management.

4. How We Use Personal Information

  1. We use personal information to provide, operate, maintain, secure, support, and improve the Service.
  2. We use information to create and manage accounts, authenticate users, organize classes, operate educational activities, store records, and display teacher and student activity results.
  3. We use information for customer support, account communications, subscription administration, refunds, dispute handling, service notices, and legal compliance.
  4. We may use limited service data to analyze performance, fix errors, monitor abuse, and improve product quality, provided that student data is not used for unrelated commercial profiling or targeted advertising.
  5. We may send service-related notices and, for teachers or administrators only, limited product or subscription communications consistent with applicable law and user choices.

5. Student and Children's Privacy

  1. SocraClass is designed for use in educational settings by teachers, schools, and students participating in classroom activities. We may process student records, participation data, submissions, evaluations, and related classroom information as provided by teachers, schools, or through student use of the Service.
  2. We collect, use, retain, and disclose student data only to provide, maintain, secure, support, and improve the educational functions of the Service and for other authorized educational purposes permitted by applicable law.
  3. We do not sell student personal information.
  4. We do not use student personal information for targeted advertising or to create commercial profiles unrelated to educational use of the Service.
  5. We collect only the student information reasonably necessary to provide the Service.
  6. Where the Service is used by or on behalf of a school or educational institution, student records may remain subject to the direction and control of the relevant school or institution. Requests to access, correct, delete, or otherwise manage student records may need to be submitted through the relevant teacher, school, or institution, depending on applicable law and the service arrangement.
  7. Teachers and schools are responsible for ensuring that they have provided any notices and obtained any permissions, consents, or other legal authority required to provide student information to the Service.
  8. For U.S. educational use, we intend the Service to operate in a manner consistent with authorized educational purposes. Where a school or teacher provides information about a student under 13 in connection with school-authorized use of the Service, the school or teacher is responsible for providing any consent or authorization required by applicable law. If the Service is used outside a school-managed context and applicable law requires parental or guardian consent for a child's personal information, we will require such consent before processing that information.

6. How We Share Personal Information

  1. We do not sell personal information.
  2. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own targeted advertising, unrelated marketing, or advertising-profile purposes.
  3. We may share personal information with schools, teachers, authorized student users, and service providers where necessary to operate the Service and for the educational purposes for which the Service is used.
  4. We may disclose personal information when required by law, legal process, or valid governmental request, or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or the integrity of the Service.
  5. We may disclose information in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, financing, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards and continuity of protections as required by law.

7. Service Providers and Processing by Third Parties

  1. We use third-party service providers that process information on our behalf for limited operational purposes such as cloud hosting, authentication, database storage, content delivery, transactional communications, and support operations.
  2. Our primary cloud and application infrastructure may include services provided through Google Cloud and Firebase, including authentication, hosting, database, and storage features.
  3. Where we engage service providers, we take reasonable steps to require them to process personal information only for authorized purposes and with appropriate confidentiality and security safeguards.
  4. If we materially change the categories of subprocessors or processing purposes in a way that requires further notice under applicable law, we will provide that notice.

8. International Transfers

  1. We may process personal information in countries other than the country where a user resides, including the Republic of Korea, the United States, or other locations where our service providers operate.
  2. Where required by applicable law, we will implement appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers of personal information.
  3. By using the international version of the Service, users understand that information may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions that may have different data protection rules than their home jurisdiction.

9. Retention of Personal Information

  1. We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain accounts, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud, and protect the security of the Service.
  2. Teacher account information is generally retained while the account remains active and for a reasonable period afterward to support security, account recovery, support, legal compliance, and dispute handling.
  3. Student and classroom records may be retained for the duration of the teacher or institutional relationship with the Service and for a reasonable period afterward, subject to the educational arrangement, applicable law, and deletion or retention settings that apply.
  4. Usage logs, billing records, refund records, and complaint-handling records may be retained for additional periods where required by law or reasonably necessary for operational, legal, or security purposes.
  5. Backups and archived system copies may persist for a limited period before deletion or overwrite under normal backup cycles.

10. Deletion and Destruction

  1. When personal information is no longer required for the purposes described in this Policy, we will delete, anonymize, or securely dispose of it, unless retention is required or permitted by applicable law.
  2. Electronic records are deleted or rendered inaccessible using reasonable technical measures designed to prevent unauthorized recovery where practicable.
  3. Where deletion requests relate to student data controlled by a school or teacher, we may direct the requestor to the relevant school or teacher or coordinate with them as appropriate.

11. Your Rights and Choices

  2. Teachers and administrators may be able to review or update some account information directly through the Service.
  3. Student data requests may need to be made through the relevant school, institution, or teacher where they control the underlying records.
  4. Users may also contact us using the contact details below. We may request information reasonably necessary to verify identity and process a request.
  5. Where we rely on consent for a specific processing activity, users may withdraw that consent as permitted by applicable law, although such withdrawal will not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.
  6. For users in U.S. states or other jurisdictions with specific privacy rights, we will process requests in accordance with applicable law to the extent such law applies to us.

12. Cookies and Similar Technologies

  1. We may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep users signed in, remember preferences, maintain security, support core service functionality, and understand basic service usage.

13. Security Measures

  1. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.
  2. These measures may include access controls, authentication protections, encrypted transmission where appropriate, logging, backup and recovery procedures, and role-based access limitations.
